When you see an article titled 10 Best Places To Get a Burger In Topeka you can’t help but stop and check to make sure your “go to” spot made the list. When it comes down to it there are a ton of places to get a burger in Topeka, but for this article we decided to focus on the local restaurants. Even though you could always go for a burger at a big franchise, we wrote this to highlight the places that Topeka has to offer. This list is in no particular order and is based off the scientific findings of online reviews and our team’s opinion. 😉
The Pennant
Opening its doors in March of 2018, The Pennant is the face of downtown and has quickly become one of the most well-known places to get a burger in Topeka. With that being said, The Pennant is more than just a place to grab a burger. It features a bowling alley on the main floor and a vintage arcade upstairs. As far as burgers go, their menu doesn’t just consist of your classic cheeseburger. They are known for many unique burgers such as My Boy Blue, P.B.J. , and our personal favorite “The Bourbonator”. You seriously can’t go wrong. If you haven’t made your way to The Pennant, it definitely needs to be added to your list.
In February The Pennant put on the 2019 Top City Food Fight where they encouraged the community to submit their entry for a burger creation they’d like added to the menu. The Pennant narrowed it down to 5 finalists and then chose a winner. “Fig Vicous” was the winning burger and is now included on the menu. The Burger Stand at College Hill
The Burger Stand at College Hill is a hot spot for burger lovers in Topeka. Located across the street from Washburn University, it has become a popular spot for those in college, especially on Monday nights when they offer a featured half-price menu for students. The Burger Stand features outdoor patio seating and two fully stocked bars – one of which is in the back dining area referred to as “The Pong Bar”. The Pong Bar offers Ping Pong Tables, Pool Tables, a Foosball Table, a pinball machine, and a digital gaming bar. They also have arguably one the best basket of fries in Topeka. We’re convinced the Truffle Fries make your burger taste that much better. Definitely one of the top places to get a burger in Topeka. Head on out to the Burger Stand to enjoy burgers, fries, and ping pong!

Bobo’s Drive In
Bobo’s Drive In is one of the oldest places to get a burger in Topeka. Opening its first location in 1948, Bobo’s has been a part of the Topeka community for more than 70 years, which has led to thousands of loyal customers and for good reasons. Their Steak-burgers and Cheeseburgers are mouthwatering and go great with a side of onion rings. When you think of places to get a burger in Topeka, Bobo’s is often the first to come to mind. Bobo’s has made noise in not just Topeka, but in all of Kansas as well. In 2009 The Kansas Sampler Foundation chose Bobo’s Drive In as one of the Eight Wonders of Kansas Cuisine. Bobo’s was the only restaurant in Topeka to be chosen! If that doesn’t convince you that Bobo’s is one of the top places to get a burger in Topeka, I don’t know what will.

Prize Package
There isn’t a lot that needs to be said about the Burgers at Prize Package. We feel the best way to describe them is “if you know you know”. Prize Package offers some of the best fried food in all of Topeka. Their burgers are very reasonably priced and are worth every cent they cost. The juicy patties, gooey cheese, and fried onions on every burger makes you question why you hadn’t eaten there before. Prize Package only does carry out, but if you call ahead they’ll have your food ready before you get there. We found a customer review that summarizes our exact thought’s on Prize Package: “Why do I love this place? Words cannot express… Just go there so you can feel the same way I do.” Hands down one of the best places to get a burger in Topeka.

Terry’s Bar and Grill
Terry’s Bar and Grill is a family owned local business that has been apart of downtown Topeka since 1976. Terry’s has the classic Bar and Grill feel, with multiple pool tables and several tv’s hanging inside. My favorite burger of theirs is the classic Double Bacon Cheeseburger. If you add some fries (seasoned, curly, or waffle), that’ll be all the food you need for the day because their meals are so filling. To go with their burgers, their menu is loaded with different appetizers, sides, and beers. Side Note – They have some killer specials such as .75 cent Tacos on Tuesdays and Sundays. If you aren’t going for the burgers at least go for the Tacos.

Larry’s Shortstop
Larry’s Shortstop is another incredible place to get a burger in Topeka that you’d only understand if you’ve been there. Located inside a convenience store just off of 38th and Topeka Boulevard, Larry’s Shortstop is known for more than just selling gas and convenience items. Their fried menu is top notch, and is a must have when you’re in the area. Their burgers are the definition of a guilty pleasure and have me coming back time and time again. The next time you need to fill up your car’s tank, or the next time you’re hungry for that matter, stop by and treat yourself.

The Pad
The Pad has been a hometown favorite for decades! Their service is top of the line and the food is unbeatable. They have a large menu consisting of chicken, soup, hotdogs, BBQ, and of course…. burgers! They have a variety of burgers such as the classic Cheeseburger to even a Taco Burger. If you’re really hungry, you’ll have to try their Jumbo Cheeseburger or even their DBL Jumbo Cheeseburger! That meal should last you awhile! And of course you can’t end your meal without trying some of their ice cream. Whether you want a Malt, Shake, or Frosty, they’ve got you covered! Check them out the next time you’re in North Topeka!

Speck’s Bar and Grill
Speck’s Bar and Grill has been one of the leading places to get a burger in Topeka since 1957 and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Speck’s is known for their massive three pound hamburger and homemade chips. People come in with friends or even by themselves to try and take on the challenge of eating three pounds of beef, a huge stack of fries and their homemade chips. This is more than likely something you don’t want to take on alone. Grab 4-5 friends and you’ll get an incredible bargain on a meal for everyone.

The Shack Bar and Grill
The Shack is arguably one of the biggest hidden gems in the city of Topeka, but to the Shawnee Heights area, it’s the go to spot. It can be a hard restaurant to find because it’s hidden location, but once you find it you’ll never forget. Located just off West Edge Rd and 29th St, The Shack has an absolutely loaded menu with Appetizers, Salads, Breakfast, and of course, Burgers! Their Double Cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese and bacon is to die for and a reason many people head to The Shack when they’re looking for places to get a burger in Topeka. If you’re looking for a new place to try, The Shack is one of the best.

Henry T’s
Henry T’s is a contemporary Bar and Grill just off of 21st and Washburn and is the go to spots for sports fans. Their menu literally has it all: quesadillas, pizzas, sandwiches, wings, and burgers. I strongly suggest you go any night of the week, but if you’re a burger lover Monday night’s might be a good place to start. On Monday’s they offer 2 for 1 on burgers all day. It’s hard to beat that deal anywhere! They have lots of other specials that make a sports game or date night that much better. Definitely one of the best places to get a burger in Topeka.
